After a welcome briefing and gear distribution (for those who need it), you will proceed to purchase tickets at the transportation ticket office:<\/p>\n

From 2750 m<\/strong>, the trek begins<\/strong>, following a path that crosses spectacular lava flows<\/strong> from recent eruptions, at the base of the South-East Crater<\/strong>. The trail develops over loose, fresh, and fragile volcanic rocks<\/strong>, also passing by active fumaroles<\/strong> emitting water vapor\u2014a clear sign of the intense volcanic activity in the area.<\/p>\n

After about 6 km of ascent<\/strong>, you will reach 3300 m<\/strong>, on the western side of the summit terrace<\/strong>, where you can admire the majesty of the Central Crater<\/strong> and closely observe the ongoing eruptive dynamics.<\/p>\n

The trek continues along the crater rim<\/strong>, before starting the descent on a steep but fun trail<\/strong> made of volcanic ash and scoria<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Once down the southern slope<\/strong> of the summit cone, you\u2019ll visit the Barbagallo Craters<\/strong> (formed during the 2002 eruption<\/strong>) and then continue on foot to 2500 m<\/strong>\u2014without using the 4\u00d74 bus<\/strong>\u2014covering approximately 8 km downhill<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From 2500 m<\/strong>, you\u2019ll take the cable car<\/strong> back to Rifugio Sapienza (1900 m)<\/strong>.

The trekking requires a discrete preparation on a physical level. Being a path that develops at\u00a0high altitude, it will be easy to accuse symptoms of\u00a0fatigue. It is required attention, since it is a volcanic active area, subjected to constant\u00a0gaseous exhalations\u00a0and composed by a soil constituted by\u00a0inconsistent\u00a0and\u00a0unstable rocks.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The excursion could be subjected to variations at the discretion of the Guides, or it could be interrupted in case of changes of the environmental, climatic or volcanic conditions, so as to undermine the\u00a0safety\u00a0of the entire group. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Because the continuous and unpredictable evolution of the\u00a0volcanic activity, the excursions could undergo variations, or, in extreme cases, be cancelled, at the discretion of the guide for\u00a0safety reasons.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The guides are entitled to stop the excursion for any reason that could compromise the\u00a0safety\u00a0and therefore the physical integrity of an individual or of the entire group.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The total time of the trekking trail will depends on the general pace.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The excursion will be carried out according to the limits laid down by the\u00a0ordinance in force.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The route is also suitable\u00a0for children\u00a0aged 12 and over who are used to walking.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The route consists of the ascent and the walking along the crater edges, this may cause\u00a0dizziness\u00a0to susceptible individuals.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This type of itinerary, in relation to the type, is suited to people in\u00a0good physical health, not suffering from particular diseases (cardio-vascular ones,\u00a0breathing ones,\u00a0or hypertension). <\/strong><\/p>\n

We recommend not to use\u00a0contact lens, because of\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>the exhaled volcanic gases and of ash. This last one could easily cause problems, if pushed. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Pregnant women\u00a0who have passed the third month of pregnancy are not allowed to take part to any excursion activity.<\/strong><\/p>\n
