Trekking to the Summit Craters
Ascent by 4x4 from Piano Provenzana (Etna North) to 2825m. From here, a 5km trek with a 490m elevation gain will take us to the edge of the Central Crater at 3315m. We will admire the grandeur of the volcanic environment and the view from the roof of Sicily.
The long descent of 1500m in negative elevation gain down to 1800m is challenging and not recommended for those with knee problems. The route winds through volcanic sand channels back to Piano Provenzana.

Detailed Schedule
- 7:30 AM: Meeting at Piano Provenzana (1800m).
- 8:00/8:15 AM: Departure and ascent by 4x4 to 2825m.
- ~9:00 AM: Start of the 5km trek to the Summit Craters.
- ~11:30 AM: Arrival at the summit (3315m) and break.
- ~12:30 PM: Start of the long descent on foot (7km).
- ~2:00/2:30 PM: Expected return to Piano Provenzana.

- Physical Effort: Requires good physical condition. Not recommended for those who do not exercise regularly.
- Challenging Descent: Strongly not recommended ⚠️ for those with joint problems, especially knees.
- Health: Not recommended ⛔️ for those with cardiovascular, respiratory, or hypertension problems.
- No Contact Lenses: Ash and gases can cause irritation.
