DESCRIPTION

The 2002 excursion to the craters is one of the most sought-after destinations and chosen by schools for the enormous wealth of information that this route is able to give regarding the aspect: volcanological, geological, naturalistic but above all because it allows children to understand the enormous energy produced by the volcano in relation to the relationship with man, completely powerless in the face of the strength of natural phenomena. The children accompanied by our guides will be immersed in a completely new world, passing from the remains of tourist infrastructures, to flows, to the green of the woods and finally to the craters surrounded by lunar landscapes, all in a path of just over 4.5 km. roundtrip.

DESCRIPTION

The excursion to the Monti Sartorius is one of the most popular due to the simplicity of the route and the possibility of crossing the entire eruptive fracture in just over 3 km.The entrance to the path is easy to identify, it is located less than a kilometer on the road leading to the Citelli Refuge, and is marked, on the right, by a sign that reads: « Comune di Sant’Alfio Monti Sartorius s.l.m. 1667m « and a green bar. The track develops within a grove of pines and birches, endemic species etnea, before reaching a plateau consists of small plants (also endemic) flows and pyroclastic products (bombs, slag and ash) to the base of the craters . At the end of the climb you can admire the craters, the landscape formed by the huge lava flow, the Linguaglossa pine forest, the coastal Ionica Calabria over the Strait of Messina, behind us instead the protagonists will be the huge adventitious cone Monte Frumento delle Concazze and the northern slope of Etna. Possibility to take a lunch break inside the Monte Baracca Refuge, managed by the CAI of Linguaglossa, just over a kilometer from the Monti Sartorius.

DESCRIPTION

The path of the Schiena dell’Asino is certainly the easiest of those that allow you to reach and admire the spectacle of the Valle del Bove. The entrance to the path is found along the SP92 that from Zafferana Etnea leads to the Sapienza Refuge, right in front of the intersection of the road that climbs from Nicolosi (Via Catania) and Pedara (SP Salto del Cane). At this junction there is a small pad that allows you to park some cars.Surrounded by pine and broom plants, we begin the excursion by passing a green bar, initially the route will be on a dirt road, which will soon give way to an easy path surrounded by endemic Etnean plants.On the way you can observe the Gulf of Catania, the Ionian Sea and the ancient craters that make up the southern slope of Etna. Once you reach the edge of the Valle del Bove you will be literally kidnapped by its size, from the panoramic point you will appreciate the numerous volcanic formations and morphologies, the most recent lava flows and the summit craters with the majestic and imposing cone of the South East Crater. The downhill route will be carried out along the same path (subject to changes) used for the climb.
