Description
Departures scheduled by Piano Provenzana every day by reservation at 8:00AM and at 13:00PM (if weather conditions allow).
On board special 4×4 vehicles you will climb along the panoramic road of the north side of Etna through ancient craters and recent lava flows up to an altitude of 2960 meters. Subsequently the ascent of 3km on foot will begin on a path made up of bombs and volcanic slag. The difference in altitude to be covered uphill will be 330 meters until you reach the real Central Crater of Etna, at an altitude of 3300 meters, during the climb you will take breaks (for explanations and refreshments). Once at the summit, we stop to admire the grandeur and uniqueness of the volcanic environment, the processes connected to it and the spectacular view from the roof of Sicily (visibility may vary depending on the weather or volcanic conditions). The 2km descent will take place along the same route taken uphill, only the last stretch will take place inside small channels made up of soft and friable volcanic slag, on which it is possible to walk easily without major problems by adopting the necessary precautions. Hello, we are planning to visit Sicily in the beggining of April. We’d love to go to Etna on the 6th of April. We are staying in Catania, address: 8 Via Barone della Bicocca, 95124, Catania. I really love your travel offer, but they are starting around 8 am and and if I was looking for the first catania bus, it leaves at 8:15 am, which means we won’t make it to the start. Is there a possibility of transport from you or can you advise me if there is another option? Thank you in advance!
Hello Barbora, you have to call us on this number +39 3455741330 for more details and to book based on availability.
Hello,
We plan to visit Sicily next week for a couple of days.
I have a question regarding the current conditions and your recomendatons for the trip.
Would it be possible (for example on 2nd of December) to reach the top craters?
Do we need to book the excursions in advance or is it better to wait and check the weather on place?
Best Regards,
Michał and Ania
Hi Michal, you can reach the Summit Craters in the winter with the use of mountaineering equipment such as: skis or crampons. Only in the summer months, usually from May to the first days of November, we offer the possibility of climbing from an altitude of 1800 metres, i.e. from where you arrive with your car (at the starting point with the guides) up to an altitude of 2900 meters and then walking up to 3300 meters. With the current conditions, i.e. now in December, above 2300 meters we have well compacted snow, which in the summit area has become ice, this implies the mandatory use of crampons. For further details, however, we always invite you to contact us on our number also on whatsapp: +395741330.
